Post office closures are affecting the whole country
Seven post offices across northern Lincolnshire have been earmarked for closure, it has been announced.

The move comes as part of a nationwide review by Post Office Ltd of its 9,000 branches in cities and towns.

The branches affected are Filey Road, Freeman Street, Oxford Street, Welholme Road and Yarborough Road in Grimsby and one in Pelham Road, Immingham.

Frodingham Road in Scunthorpe could also close. If approved, the branches will shut in January.

Struggling to survive

David Mellows-Facer, head of the area for the Post Office Ltd, said there are too many offices competing for too little business.

"The harsh reality is many urban offices are struggling to survive because there are too many branches for the amount of business," he said.

"Post offices in these areas have been affected by a declining number of customers, increasing running costs and the recent change to how benefits are paid with the introduction of direct payment into accounts."
