Jobs axed at cost cutting council
Council tax bills
North East Lincolnshire Council was described as "weak" in January
Major cuts to public services provided by North East Lincolnshire Council are in the pipeline, along with the loss of 20 jobs, it has been announced.

The authority needs to meet a shortfall of 5m in its budget and has warned 10m will also have to be saved.

Almost all public toilets in the area will be closed along with four branch libraries.

There will also be cuts in social services and education, and an increase in car parking charges.

Under fire

In March, the council came under fire from a government watchdog.

The Audit Commission reported that financial management at the authority had been inadequate.

Despite making substantial cutbacks, the council has had to borrow more than 12m to pay for day-to-day services.

In an earlier report in January, the Audit Commission described the performance of North East Lincolnshire Council as "weak".
