Council warning on alcohol sales
Drink bottles
Three out of seven shops sold alcohol to a 15-year-old
Licensees in Hull are being reminded they face prosecution if they sell alcohol to youngsters under 18.

The warning comes after three shops in the Preston Road area were caught selling alcohol to 15-year-olds.

An undercover operation, carried out by police and trading standards, was launched after residents complained about underage drinking in the area.

Councillors say more exercises are now planned as part of their efforts to tackle anti-social behaviour.

Spokesman Shaun Butcher said: "Alcohol plays a factor in the complaints I have received on the [Preston Road] estate.

"This is an excellent example of agencies working together in a successful operation to tackle wider issues in the area."

Humberside Police said the aim of the operation was to educate alcohol-sellers about their responsibility to the local community.

The shops caught in the sting operation were later visited by police officers to remind them to obey the law and check people's ages.

Chief Inspector Russ Waterman said: "If they do not accept their responsibilities, and the final warnings that are given, then enforcement action will be taken."
