The Prince of Wales went on a walkabout in Howden
The Prince of Wales has praised local newspapers during a visit to Yorkshire.

Prince Charles met regional newspaper editors from across Britain at Shire Hall in Howden, East Yorkshire.

He said of their papers: "They are a vital part of our local communities in helping to foster a sense of place and belonging and also in ensuring that the countless good things being done by people in their local communities do not go unreported."

The prince was in the town to officially open the offices of the national news agency, the Press Association, which employs 500 people in Howden producing a wide range of news, sports and listing services.

He was later to visit Catterick Garrison in North Yorkshire.
