Teenager falls into freezing lake

A 17-year-old boy has been treated for hypothermia after falling into a freezing lake in Worcestershire.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said a crew was sent to Arrow Valley Lake, in Redditch, shortly after 0300 GMT.

A spokeswoman said the teenager, who was taken to hospital, was out of the water when they arrived but was reportedly in the lake for 15 minutes.

Heavy snow and cold weather has led to more than 70 schools being shut across Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

Head injuries

In Kidderminster, three people were injured in a collision, thought to be weather-related, involving four cars on the St Mary's ring road.

A woman was taken to hospital with chest injuries while another woman and her daughter were treated at the scene for head injuries.

The road was shut after the crash but has since reopened.

The emergency services have urged drivers to take extra precautions before going out in the snow.

Homes in Tupsley, Hereford, were without water from 1000 GMT because of a frozen pressure valve.

Engineers were working at the site to restore water supplies.

Heavy snow has fallen across large parts of England, disrupting travel.

The Met Office has issued an extreme weather warning for England, Wales and parts of eastern Scotland.
