Council decides to merge schools

Two primary schools are to merge, a council has confirmed.

Worcestershire County Council said it planned to close Lickhill Primary School in Stourport-on-Severn because the building was unsuitable.

Pupils would move to nearby Stourport Primary, where new buildings would be built.

Parents said council chiefs had ignored the strength of public support for Lickhill Primary School. The council will discuss the closure in July.

A consultation was held earlier this year asking for people's views on the issue.

A total of 535 people were against closing the school, while 53 were in favour.
