Anger over school closure plans

Parents have said they are angry that plans are going ahead to shut their children's school - despite more than 500 people opposing the idea.

Worcestershire County Council officers recommend that Lickhill Primary School, in Stourport-on-Severn should shut.

Children from that school would be moved to Stourport Primary instead.

Council bosses said the building was no longer suitable. However, parents said they feared youngsters' education could suffer in a larger school.

The council held a consultation earlier this year asking for people's views on the issue.

'Same level'

A total of 535 people were against closing the school, while 53 were in favour.

Graham Harvey, whose daughter is at Lickhill, is one of those who have been campaigning against the closure.

He said: "It is obvious that larger schools just do not provide the same level of education that smaller schools do."

Officers have recommended that councillors vote for the closure in a report.

A final decision is expected to be made in the next few weeks.
