People living near the River Severn are bracing themselves for flooding as water levels continue to rise.

A severe flood warning, showing a risk of danger to life and property, has been downgraded to a flood warning in Crew Green and Shrawardine, Shropshire.

Flood warnings, a risk to businesses and homes, are in place at Shrewsbury, Bridgnorth, Worcester and Ironbridge.

River levels are expected to peak during Friday evening in Shrewsbury and on Saturday at Ironbridge.

Heavy rain has meant flood barriers are up along the River Severn.

Flooding in Ross-on-Wye

Bewdley Bridge closed on Thursday evening as flood barriers on the Wribbenhall side of the Severn were raised for the first time.

In Shrewsbury, Frankwell and St Julian's car parks were closed in case of flooding from the Severn.

The River Wye in Herefordshire has also burst its banks with parts of Hereford and Ross-on-Wye under water.

Flood warnings on the River Avon in Warwickshire and Worcestershire have now been downgraded to a flood watch.

Thursday's strong winds and heavy rain saw trees being blown down and several accidents across the region.
