Percy and Florence never go to bed on an argument

Percy and Florence Arrowsmith, who are 105 and 100 respectively, celebrate their 80th anniversary on 1 June.

Mr and Mrs Arrowsmith may also hold the record for being the oldest married couple in the world.

Mrs Arrowsmith said: "I would say we are lucky that we are still together. The most important thing is that we still love one another."

On Tuesday, the couple were presented with a certificate by officials from Guinness World Records.

Asked about the secret of her successful marriage, Mrs Arrowsmith said: "We don't often quarrel. We never go to bed as bad friends.

"If you've had a quarrel, you make it up - never be afraid to say sorry."

The couple, who have three children, six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, tied the knot at their local church in Hereford in 1925.

At the time the current Queen had not even been born, Stanley Baldwin was Prime Minister and Adolf Hitler was a little-known politician.

Mrs Arrowsmith said her memory of the day itself was that it was cold while her husband fondly remembers his speech.

He said: "I remember saying 'on behalf of myself and my wife' - it was the first time I had ever said those words."

The couple, who still live in their own home, said they were delighted to make it into the record books.

They plan to celebrate their milestone anniversary with a family party.
