The Guinness World Records is hoping to verify the claim |
A couple from Hereford who celebrate their 80th wedding anniversary next month may soon hold the world record for the longest lasting marriage. Percy and Florence Arrowsmith, from Hereford, were married on 1 June 1925.
The Guinness World Records said they did not know about their milestone and were looking at birth and marriage certificates to verify the claim.
Mr Arrowsmith told BBC News the secret of their wedded bliss was just two words: "Yes dear".
Mrs Arrowsmith said they were still very happy.
Celebration planned
"God has been very good to us," she said.
"We're well looked after and still in our own home, which is very important."
She said her family were organising a celebration.
A spokesman for the Guinness World Records said they would be updating their records as soon as birth and marriage certificates are obtained to authenticate the claim.
The couple aged 105 and 100-years-old have three children, six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
The current holders of the title Longest Marriage for a Living Couple, were married in Japan in 1926 and were together for 78 years and 296 days.
