New bins to boost recycling rates
Wheelie bins are being introduced across Worcester in a bid to improve recycling rates.

They are being rolled-out across the city over a two-year period to ensure a smooth transition from bags to bins.

Once the more environmentally-friendly service is in full use it is expected to save up to 300,000 a year.

Council leader Stephen Inman said: "One advantage of the new system is the bins are cleaner, and safer, than the bags previously distributed to houses."

Deputy Simon Geraghty said: "Everyone at the council is confident that once the new system is up and running we will quickly win over any remaining sceptics.

"But it's important we listen and learn from everyone involved if we are to reach the national target of 24% of household refuse being recycled."
