Man beats cancer to donate kidney
Kieran Courtney
Mr Courtney has made a full recovery
A man has overcome a battle with cancer to give his sister the chance to receive one of his kidneys.

Kieran Courtney was found last year to be a good match for Anna Burton, 32, from Worcester, who is currently being kept alive by a dialysis machine.

But doctors then discovered 33-year-old Mr Courtney had testicular cancer and the transplant had to be put on hold.

He has since made a full recovery and the operation to give his sister one of his kidneys will take place on Friday.

'Very brave'

Mrs Burton, a mother-of-two, told BBC Midlands Today she was looking forward to being able to stop the daily dialysis treatment.

"I'm a bit nervous but I'm also excited. I can have a normal life with my kids.

"I think he's very brave. I still can't get my head around it. I question, would I do it?"

Mr Courtney, who lives in Italy, said it was very hard to take the news that he had cancer.

"I was devastated. But my main concerns were for Anna," he said.

"I put my emotions to one side."
