Second Legionnaires' victim dies

A second victim of the Legionnaires' disease outbreak in Redditch has died, health authorities have announced.

The patient, a woman in her 60s, had been in a critical condition for some days. A 62-year-old woman, Joy Bellingham, died on 8 September.

Meanwhile the outbreak's third victim, a man in his 50s, has been discharged from hospital. There have been no further cases for over a week.

The search for the source of the outbreak is continuing.

'Remaining vigilant'

All three victims had been in the Alexandra Hospital, Redditch.

Local businesses have been strongly advised to cleanse their water systems.

David Kirrage, director of the Health Protection Agency in Herefordshire and Worcestershire, "We are very sorry that this lady has died.

"We are remaining vigilant and continue to carry out tests to try to find the source of the outbreak."
