Safety campaign targets bike race
A motorcycle event is being used by police to educate riders in an effort to reduce road fatalities.

Officers will be raising awareness of Hampshire's Bikesafe initiative, at the British Superbikes weekend at Thruxton Race Circuit.

The Bikesafe campaign aims to improve riders' skills and is aimed at all bikers ranging from the novice on a scooter to the experienced rider.

Last year 33 bikers died in crashes in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

The scheme involves rider assessments where assessors and riders exchange tips on riding skills, suspension set-up and actions at the scene of a collision.

John Reynolds, 2001 British Superbike Champion, said: "The latest road bikes offer more performance than race bikes of five years ago.

"If you are new to bikes or haven't ridden for some years extra training is a must and will enhance your enjoyment of your bike."
