Hundreds of people who served in the armed forces are gathering in Hampshire over the weekend. National Veterans Day will be marked on Southsea Common with military parades and displays.
The day is designed to promote public awareness of veterans and to let former servicemen and woman know about the support available to them.
On Sunday, a special film showing rare and previously unseen footage from WWII will also be shown at the D-Day Museum.
Some of the attraction include The Parachute Regiment Band, Red Devils, a cavalry display, a World War II battle re-enactment and weapons displays.
There is also assault courses for children and military vehicles and helicopters on display.
Derek Twigg, Veterans Minister, said: "People generally have the view of a veteran as someone who was in the Second World War but now it's right across the age groups.
"Now young people coming out of Iraq and Afghanistan are in their early 20s, so the spread of veterans is now much greater.
"We owe so much to them, for the work they've done for their country, the sacrifices that many have made and the difficult and dangerous circumstances that they've been in."
This year, about 200 Veterans Day events are taking place across the UK.
