Foo Fighters were Saturday's headline act on the Isle of Wight |
The future of the Isle of Wight Festival looks secure after the local council said it was backing further events after last weekend's "success". About 50,000 people were entertained at Seaclose Park in hot sunshine by acts including Coldplay and Placebo.
A council spokesman said it was working to ensure next year was "even better".
The festival has grown since restarting in 2002 - the original rock festival took place from 1968 to 1970 and became legendary for acts like Jimi Hendrix.
The spokesman said last weekend's event had been "relatively incident-free" and was "rapidly developing a reputation as being a safe, fun event for the whole family".
'Best event'
This year, parking permits were introduced for the residents of Fairlee, who had complained in previous years about the impact of the festival on available spaces.
A non-emergency helpline was set up for island residents and a mobile response unit was on-call throughout the four-day event.
Leader of the Isle of Wight Council Andy Sutton, who attended the event, said: "The Isle of Wight Festival has become one of the best events of its kind in the country, and the council is proud to be a partner.
"The future of the Island is very much dependent on high-quality events, high-quality tourism, and the council showing it will support innovation and vision."
