Domestic abuse victims' sanctuary
Domestic violence survivors on the Isle of Wight are to benefit from a scheme aimed at keeping them safe in their homes and preventing homelessness.

Council bosses agreed to draw up plans for the "Sanctuary" project following a recent conference focusing on the needs of those suffering domestic abuse.

It is hoped Sanctuary will "reduce the disruption to family life relocating victims of domestic violence causes".

The council said 15% of those accepted as homeless were fleeing abuse.

Councillor Dawn Cousins, cabinet member for care, health and housing, said: "Our primary concern is to support the victims of domestic violence and give them whatever help we can.

"We recognise the implications for issues such as housing, health, law enforcement and child protection, and will work with our partners to provide support for victims in this area."
