A SIM card with a special message
Domestic violence -generic
Two women die every week at the hands of partners and ex-partners
An information card aimed at children and young people affected by domestic violence has been launched in towns and villages across Staffordshire.

The colourful card, containing vital contact numbers and websites for child support agencies, is being called the SIM card (Safety In Mind).

The cards are being issued in Stafford, Cannock Chase, Tamworth, Lichfield and East Staffordshire.

It follows a successful funding bid by support co-ordinators in the areas.

Debi Bacon, a domestic violence support worker from social services in East Staffordshire, said: "In 90% of domestic incidents, children were in the same or the next room, with at least 750,000 children a year witnessing domestic abuse.

"Children are not just affected by being abused... seeing and hearing abuse can cause psychological trauma, anger, fear, insecurity and guilt, which is why these SIM cards are so important."
