Crime drops by nearly 50% in town
A force is hailing its crime crackdown a success after figures showed vandalism, violence and vehicle crime had fallen by almost 50%.

Alresford in Hampshire, has seen "staggering reductions" in crime levels reported in the area over the last twelve months," say Hampshire police.

Car crime - thefts from and of vehicles - fell by 56% to 31 cases in the year.

House burglaries fell by 52% to 21 cases, vandalism fell by 44% to 49 cases. Violent crime fell by 41% to 50.

Insp Steve Sargent, of Alresford Police Station, said: "We've had one of the quietest years that anyone can remember and we're so pleased that the types of crime which have fallen so much are the ones which the public fear the most.

"Not one of the 2,400 houses in Alresford town has been burgled in the last six months."
