The new liner will cruise the Mediterranean in the summer |
A new cruise ship arrived into its home port of Southampton for the first time on Wednesday. P&O's latest liner, the 85,000 tonne Arcadia, sailed into the Mayflower Cruise Terminal shortly after 1100 BST.
The 200m ship, which can carry more than 2,000 passengers, is the length of 30 double-decker buses.
It will be officially named at a ceremony on 12 April by Olympic gold-medallist Dame Kelly Holmes.
The Italian-built ship has a top speed of 22 knots and includes two swimming pools, a three-tier theatre and a casino.
In the summer months, the Arcadia will take its passengers around the Mediterranean, while in the winter it will be berthed in Barbados and cruise around the Caribbean.
Its launch brings the number of cruise ships working out of Southampton to 10.
