Parents warned in truancy sweep
police patrol
The truancy sweep was carried out in Sandown and Ryde
The homes of 48 parents whose children have been regularly missing school were visited as part of the latest truancy sweep on the Isle of Wight.

Education welfare officers concerned about the attendance record of some pupils in Ryde and Sandown offered help and advice to their parents.

But they also reminded them they had a legal responsibility to ensure their children are not truanting.

A total of 16 pupils were stopped by police on 17 November.

A spokesman for the Isle of Wight Council said: "The truancy sweeps were conducted in the two island towns to also tackle the problem of youth crime."
