Gloucestershire County Cricket club has been given the go-ahead to increase the capacity of its ground in Bristol. The club needed to expand the number of seats by 4,000 to 20,000 to meet the standards required for hosting international games. Tom Richardson, from the club, said: "It's very important for the future of our club and for the future of international cricket in Bristol." The plans also include a "world class" media centre and conference facilities. Bristol City Council also approved an outline planning application for an associated development, which includes accommodation for 350 students. Some people living near the cricket ground are opposed to the development claiming that it would mean more traffic congestion, parking problems and noise.
