Gloucestershire County Cricket club is awaiting a decision on plans to expand the capacity of its ground in Bristol to 20,000. The club, which has played on its Nevil Road ground since 1888, says it needs to update its facilities to meet standards to host international games. Planning officers have recommended approval but this has to be passed by members of the planning committee. The development would also see accommodation for 350 students. Improved media facilities, conference and hospitality features are also included in the plans. The club's chairman, Rex Body, said: "It is difficult to stress the importance of the proposed developments to our long term future in Bristol... for the county team and the club as a whole." A final ruling on the move will be made at a meeting of Bristol City Council's planning committee on 10 March.
