Extra salt deliveries help county

Supplies of extra road salt have begun to arrive in Gloucestershire to replenish the county's dwindling stock.

The county council has been given 500 tonnes from Cornwall County Council and its regular supplier has prioritised Gloucestershire's order of 550 tonnes.

Up to 500 tonnes of table salt was bought in earlier after stocks of rock salt started to run low.

Gritting of key routes will continue though motorists are asked to take extra care on minor routes.

Cllr Stan Waddington of Gloucestershire County Council thanked council bosses in Cornwall for releasing the salt.

"Their generosity and cooperation will greatly increase our ability to keep Gloucestershire moving safely."
