A40 resurfacing work due to begin

The next phase in a 10m road improvement scheme on the A40 in Gloucestershire will see the Charlton Kings section resurfaced.

Some 12,000 tonnes of Tarmac will be laid on the stretch of London Road between Old Bath Road and the Charlton Kings Hotel.

Delays are anticipated as there are no local diversions available.

"The limited width of the road will dictate how the works will be carried out," said engineer Frank Heggs.

"Some of the work will use two-way traffic lights and some will use convoy working at 10mph, so there will be long delays," said Mr Heggs.

"New safety regulations now mean that there is no option but to close parts of London Road where the road is too narrow and the road will be closed at Andoversford with widespread traffic diversions."

Signs will be posted at Andoversford advising traffic of alternative routes. The work is scheduled for completion by 10 November, 2008.

Phase six of the A40 resurfacing is due to start on 18 August 2008.
