River levels 'unlikely to change'
River levels in Gloucestershire are unlikely to change over the next few days, the Environment Agency said.

Experts are continuing to monitor the situation, and a flood control centre at Gloucester Docks is currently in operation.

David Throup from the Agency says Gloucestershire appears to have missed the worst of the heavy rain forecast.

"At the moment the situation is stable and the system can cope with the water that is currently in it."

'Situation very different'

Mr Throup added: "Until the catchment dries out a little, things are very sensitive.

"If we were to get prolonged heavy local rain then the situation could change."

We would ask people to remain vigilant
Ch Insp Richard Smith, Gloucestershire Constabulary

Gloucestershire Constabulary said its silver command would remain in operation over the weekend purely as a precautionary measure.

"We do not expect anything major to happen.

"The situation is very different to that of July but as weather predictions can change we will continue to be prepared for any event.

"We would ask people to remain vigilant, be aware of the forecasts and to stay tuned to local radio and TV broadcasts for updated information," said Ch Insp Richard Smith.

The following roads in the county remain closed due to flood water. The B4213 between Tirley and Apperley at Haw Bridge, the A417 at Maisemore and the unclassified road, Sandhurst Lane is also still affected.

Police are appealing for drivers to pay attention to flood warning signs and not to attempt to drive through roads that are affected by flood water.
