The county was one of the worst hit areas of England during deluges in June and July last year.

Gloucestershire County Council highway teams have been inspecting roads and clearing them of debris.

Flood warnings remain for the River Severn between Worcester and Tewkesbury, and from Tewkesbury to upstream of Gloucester.

Some train services between Cheltenham and London Paddington have been delayed by flooding at Swindon.

Sandbags are being placed in front of homes in Gloucester, Tewkesbury and several towns in the Forest of Dean.

Dr Rachel Pagnamenta, from Cheltenham, whose flat was badly damaged by summer flooding, said it would be hard to cope if she was flooded again.

She said: "I'm fed up of it. I've had people texting me and asking if my flat's all right.

"It's all right at the moment. If it happens, it happens. It will be completely disastrous and difficult to cope with.

"I'm not convinced it will flood just yet, I'm worried it's getting blown out of proportion."

BBC weatherman Richard Angwin said:�" Many parts of the region experienced 10 to 15 millimetres of rain earlier in the day.

"But another 10 to 155 millimetres of rain may fall during the early evening as heavy showers move up from the South West. Localised flooding is highly likely before drier weather returns overnight."
