Cabbies in Cheltenham are claiming a victory after councillors overturned a ban on drivers flying England flags on their vehicles during the World Cup. The taxi drivers had been told they were not allowed to fly the St George Cross because of "safety issues".
But, after a public outcry in the town, councillors changed their minds.
A Cheltenham Borough Council spokeswoman said flags would be allowed as long as they did not include any other branding and were safely fixed.
One taxi driver - who did not want to be named - said that the decision to overturn the ruling was "common sense".
"To tell the truth a lot of our drivers had the flags flying any way despite the ban.
"There's nothing wrong with having the England flags flying on the cars, especially during the World Cup."
