Three men died in a car crash on 7 May, taking the number of people killed on Forest roads this year to 11.

Tory MP Mark Harper said issues, such as better road safety education, would be discussed.

"The last thing we want is as each month ticks by for there to be another fatal road accident," he said.

Mr Harper is due to meet with Tim Perrin, chief executive of the Forest of Dean District Council, and road safety officers on Friday.

'Formal campaign'

This will be followed by a meeting with Gloucestershire's chief constable Timothy Brain and the Forest of Dean divisional commander Ch Supt Chris Merrick, possibly in the following week.

The MP said there did not appear to be any pattern to the accidents; they were not at particular blackspots and were happening at different times of the day.

However, he did point out that a large number of the victims were young people.

"It appears the focus is going to be some kind of formal campaign to get the message through, particularly to young drivers, about the risks involved in driving," he said.
