Police are cracking down on illegal parking
Motorists who ignore diversions near the Royal International Air Tattoo this year will be fined, say police.

Roads near RAF Fairford have been jammed during previous events, blocking emergency access routes.

A new system has been put in place near the base to stop illegal parking, and police have been told to fine drivers 30 if they ignore the restrictions.

Pc George Lager said: "It is essential that roads are kept clear." The event takes place on 17 and 18 July.

Pc Lager added: "In the past motorists have moved road closure signs and proceeded as normal, which in an emergency situation could be lethal.

"The public should know that all closures and restrictions are there for a reason, which, in the main, is their safety."

Last year, the event attracted more than 160,000 spectators and 500 aircraft from.

Money from the show goes to the RAF Benevolent Fund.
