The prison houses more than 300 inmates |
Gloucester Prison has been commended for progress made since its inspection last year. But there is still room for improvement, particularly in working to cut bullying and racial harassment, says a report by the Prisons Inspectorate.
Relationships between prisoners and staff have been much improved in the last 12 months, and there has been noticeable progress in safety, and fostering a culture of respect.
Anne Owers, chief inspector of prisons, also commended the prison's education programme, and the work it undertakes on resettling released prisoners.
She noted how difficult this was when only 13% of the prison's population come from the local area.
The category B prison, which houses more than 300 prisoners, was inspected in September, although the report has just been released.
