The prison is one of the 20 most overcrowded in the UK |
A siege at one of Britain's most overcrowded jails ended after staff overpower two inmates. The stand-off began when two prisoners at Gloucester Prison barricaded themselves in a cell at 1100 BST on Thursday.
The pair, who were protesting over visiting rights, remained in the cell for more than three-and-a-half hours.
Warders stormed the cell at 1435 BST, overpowering the inmates and bringing the siege to an end.
The protesters have been placed in a segregation unit while they wait to face disciplinary proceedings.
The protest came on the day a survey revealed Gloucester Prison is among the 20 most overcrowded jails in the country.
