The honour is the highest the city can bestow
Gloucester's rugby World Cup winning trio are to be honoured with the freedom of the city.

Phil Vickery, Trevor Woodman and Andy Gomarsall arrived back from Australia on Tuesday morning.

Letters from the city council had already gone out to congratulate them.

The title is an honorary one and the highest award the city council can give.

Meanwhile, plans to celebrate the return of Bath RFC players from the Rugby World Cup are still being considered.

Three Bath players were on the pitch for the final game - Mike Catt, Mike Tindall and Iain Balshaw.

Bath scrum half Martyn Wood and captain Danny Grewcock were also involved in the competition, as was former Bath player and coach Andy Robinson, now England's assistant coach.

A tour of the city by open top bus, and a civic reception at the Guildhall are the main ideas being suggested, to celebrate Bath's contribution to the historic victory.
