By 2005, GCHQ wants to cut car usage by 15%
Staff at the government's intelligence centre in Gloucestershire have signed up for a car sharing scheme for their move to a new site later this year.

The scheme at the new GCHQ site - nicknamed the Doughnut - aims to reduce the number of vehicles used to get to and from work.

Known as Care to Share, staff can enter their arrival and departure times in a database, which matches them with colleagues who have similar working and commuting patterns.

A spokesperson for GCHQ said: "The idea is to establish car pools.

"The database is very flexible. It doesn't have to focus on the home as a pick up point and can work from schools, nurseries or agreed meeting places.

"The scheme has been running for a few days and some 650 users have already signed up," he added.

By 2005, GCHQ wants to cut car usage by 15%.
