Three men have now been arrested following Anna Bartlett's death |
Indian police have charged two Irishmen with the murder of a British woman in northern India. Senior police officer Kushal Sharma said the two men were arrested on Friday by officers investigating the death of Anna Bartlett, who came from Southend, Essex.
Her body was found in the northern town of Manali, Himachal Pradesh, on 3 October.
Both men contacted the Irish embassy in Delhi on Monday and were taken to Himachal Pradesh.
Three arrests in total
Indian police said the men attended voluntarily at Manali police station and were taken into custody.
A police officer in the northern Indian town of Manali said the two men had been charged with murder and destroying evidence.
They will appear in court again on Wednesday.
A third man, from India, has also been arrested in connection with the death and a fourth, a Nepalese, is wanted for questioning.
An autopsy report into the death of 25-year-old Ms Bartlett suggested she had been beaten to death.
In May 2001 she pleaded guilty to importing drugs in the United Arab Emirates and was sentenced to 25 years in prison.
At an appeal hearing in October 2001, judges cut her sentence to 10 years but a pardon was granted in June 2003.
