South's police forces score well
Dorset Police chief constable Martin Baker
Chief Constable Baker said the reports were "good news" for Dorset
Dorset Police are one of nine forces who came third in a table compiled from official Home Office performance figures for England and Wales.

The county scored 14 points out of a possible 21 when it was rated in seven different categories.

The Thames Valley force, covering Berkshire and Oxfordshire, achieved 13 points and Hampshire Constabulary 12.

Government reports graded all three forces as "excellent" in at least one area of investigation.

The reports, by the Police and Crime Standards Directorate and Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC), investigated all 43 constabularies in England and Wales.

Dorset's chief constable Martin Baker said: "The HMIC report praises Dorset Police for continuing to focus on providing a service that meets the needs and expectations of the community which is re-enforced by our vision and priorities."
