The plane came down 12 miles west of Kandahar in Afghanistan |
Tributes have been made to a Dorset airman who was killed in a plane crash in southern Afghanistan. Flt Lt Leigh Mitchelmore, 28, from Bournemouth, who served at RAF Kinloss, Moray, died when a Nimrod MR2 came down on Saturday.
The weapons systems officer was said by defence officials to have had a "very bright future" ahead of him.
A technical fault is thought to have caused the crash, which killed 14 servicemen. An inquiry is under way.
On Monday all non-essential flights, with the exception of search and rescue, were grounded for a day of mourning at the RAF Kinloss base in Scotland.
A spokesperson for the MOD said Flt Lt Mitchelmore had "a natural ability and personality that perfectly suited him to the Nimrod role."
