Casino plans debate to be heard

The meeting next week will hear both sides of the debate
Residents against plans for a major casino in a seaside resort town are being urged to have their say.

Councillors in Bournemouth, Dorset, are to debate whether they should apply for one of the Government's "large casino" licences next month.

Tourism and business chiefs have backed the plans and will present their case to a council meeting next week.

But councillors also want to hear from anyone against plans for a 150-machine casino before a final decision is made.

March deadline

At the meeting of the "strengthening our economy" scrutiny and review panel on 22 February, the results of consultation with 1,000 residents will be presented.

Councillor Bron Littlewood said: "This is a big deal for Bournemouth and the panel wants to hear evidence from both sides of the debate.

"Any group or individual who feels they have some evidence to present should take this opportunity to tell us all about it."

A decision on the plans will be made at a meeting of the full council on 28 February.

Any bid must be submitted by the end of March.
