Buyer found for 2.5m island home
Poole Harbour
Green Island is one of five islands in Poole Harbour
An island off one of Britain's most expensive property areas, which was put on the market for 2.5m, has been sold.

Green Island in Poole Harbour, Dorset, is off the coast of the town's expensive Sandbanks district.

The island, one of five in the harbour, has its own grass helipad and pontoon. When it last went on the market in 1987 it sold for 500,000.

The estate agents said well-known local family the Iliffes had agreed to buy the island for an undisclosed sum.

Holiday base moved

That is thought to be equal or above the asking price.

The Iliffe family have had connections in Poole Harbour for the past 70 years and through Marina Developments Ltd, one of their businesses, run Cobb's Quay Marina.

The mother of the purchaser, Edward Iliffe, has been one of the volunteer helpers assisting the Green Island Holiday Trust.

The trust was set up 14 years ago to provide, organise and run holidays for the disabled on Green Island each summer.

It will shortly be moving its holiday base next door to Brownsea Island in Poole Harbour.
