Adventurer to finish Pacific trip
Jason Lewis
Jason Lewis wants to complete the Pacific leg of his trip
An adventurer who crossed all but 20 miles of the Pacific in a pedal boat now plans to finish the trip by kayak.

Jason Lewis, 37, travelled from the US to Australia in a pedal-powered craft as part of a human-powered global trip which began in London in 1994.

But when his 26,000 vessel ran into difficulties on the Great Barrier Reef in August 2000 he had to accept a tow.

Mr Lewis, from Bridport, Dorset, is preparing to restart his global trip by completing the Pacific leg.

Adventurers reunited

He has flown out to Queensland to do so.

He has so far travelled about 24,000 miles on his Expedition 360 marathon, which he began with fellow adventurer Steve Smith, also 37, from Wolverhampton.

The pair split up in Hawaii but are now getting together again to tackle the next leg from Darwin, from where they will voyage 600 miles to Kupang, Indonesia.

Then they will kayak and mountain bike along the Indonesian chain to Singapore.

The route back to UK has yet to be finalised, but a return to the start line at Greenwich, south-east London, would complete the first journey around the world entirely by human power.
