The boy, who has not been named, had to be airlifted to hospital after the accident during a race at the Weymouth and Portland Sailing Academy on Sunday.

Dorset police have said that the boy, whose family are by his bedside at hospital, is not from the area.

Portland coastguard's helicopter was used in airlifting the boy to hospital. Inquiries into the accident continue.
