A company has assured residents of a popular seaside village that a massive scheme to improve the sewage system will not affect the tourist trade. The �9m Wessex Water scheme will involve laying a nine kilometre pipeline from West Lulworth to the existing treatment plant at Wool.
Three pumping stations will also be built close to West Lulworth.
The work is expected to take 13 months to complete but will be phased to avoid disruption during the tourist season.
A Wessex Water spokesman said: "Main building work will be confined to Wool treatment works, to Hambury Farm, and to fields north of the Winfrith Newburgh road in West Lulworth.
"The new works have been designed to ensure they fit in with the surrounding landscape and an environmental assessment has been carried out to ensure there is no impact on any protected species or archaeology."
