The steam fair will celebrate the history of steam power |
Motorists have been warned to plan ahead to avoid the major congestion expected to clog-up routes to the Great Dorset Steam Fair. Roads likely to be affected by the event, celebrating the history of steam power, include the A354, Blandford bypass, Blandford town, and the A350.
The fair will be held from 1 to 5 September at a site adjacent to the A354 at Southdown, Tarrant Hinton.
About 250,000 people attended last year's show, near Blandford Forum.
Julian Hubbuck, site manager for the Great Dorset Steam Fair, said: "With this number of people attending an event, traffic congestion is always going to be a problem.
"This year, however, we are taking further measures to minimise traffic congestion as much as possible by making a number of improvements to our car parks and providing advanced warning signs to re-route non steam fair traffic.
"If at all possible, we advise all non steam fair traffic to use an alternative route and avoid the A354 Blandford to Salisbury road near Tarrant Hinton."
