As news emerged that Faye Turney's release was being delayed, neighbours near her Plymouth home have been speaking of their shock. Leading Seaman Turney is the only woman among eight sailors and seven marines taken last week by Iranian forces who said they were in its waters.
Neighbour Lianne Caine said: "It's obviously having an affect on the family. I feel for them."
Leading Seaman Turney's husband Adam has declined to comment.
"It's really shocking," said Nicola Jones, who used to work in the local shop near the Turney's Tamerton Foliot home.

"She's a nice girl - friendly, happy and chirpy. It's really quite sad this has happened."
Meanwhile in a statement HMS Cornwall's captain, Commander Jeremy Woods thanked the people of the South West for their support at what he called "this difficult time".
More than 200 messages posted on the BBC's Devon and Cornwall websites have been sent out to the ship.
Commander Woods said:" "We are united in our quest for the safe and speedy return of our colleagues and our thoughts and prayers are with them, their families and friends."
