Exeter Airport bidders revealed
Exeter Airport
The airport is due to handle one million passengers in 2006
The preferred buyer of a Devon airport is to be made up of world players in the transport and aviation industries.

Devon County Council has selected a consortium made up of Balfour Beatty and London City Airport as the preferred bidder for Exeter Airport.

The alliance beat off competition from five other shortlisted bidders.

The council decided in 2004 to sell most of its airport shares because it was unable to afford the investment needed to develop it.

The council hopes a sale can be completed before Christmas.

The airport is expected to handle more than one million passengers this year.
