The scheme has stopped rubbish being thrown around by the birds |
Refuse collectors in east Devon will be up with the lark to beat problems caused by gulls. Crews will be out from 0500 BST during the summer to avoid problems caused by seagulls pecking open rubbish bags left out for collection.
The early refuse collections are being carried out in Budleigh Salterton, Exmouth, Seaton, Sidmouth and Beer.
The scheme has been successful for two years after it was tested by East Devon District Council.
The council said it found the early collections made a big difference to the amount of rubbish strewn across footpaths by the scavengers.
