Beach cleaners out across region
Wembury beach
Wembury beach is one of a number being cleaned
Beaches across the region are getting an autumn clean over the weekend to rid them of rubbish left from the summer.

Volunteers will be beachcombing the coast as part of BeachWatch weekend, when they will also be keeping note of the litter they find.

The Marine Conservation Society (MCS) notes every piece of rubbish found on a 100-metre stretch of beach.

Beachcombers will be out in force in Devon and Cornwall including at Croyde, Wembury and Portreath beaches.

The details gathered will be used by the MCS to launch campaigns and tackle the problem.

Last year's survey found the South West had the highest density of beach litter in the country.

And in Cornwall off the Lizard is being cleaned up by a group of divers as part of another initiative.
