Simon James dedicated one of his books to Wembury beach |
Children at a Plymouth primary school are to get a literary treat when Devon-born writer and illustrator Simon James pays them a visit. He will be visiting the city's Stoke Damerel school on Wednesday in the hope of inspiring pupils to write.
He will be talking to children aged 4-7 about his books, where he gets his ideas from and how he develops those ideas into stories for children.
The visit has been organised by the school's literacy co-ordinator.
'Absolutely honest'
Mary Barnes said: "It's good to meet a real author, and we're always looking for new ways to encourage our pupils to write.
"Simon can talk about places the children know, like Wembury beach and Plymbridge Woods, and explain how those places have inspired him to write his books."
James, who lives in Plymouth actually dedicated one of his books to the beach at Wembury.
He credits the beach for inspiring his book, Sally and the Limpet.
He said: "I visit many, many schools and book fairs, and I like kids because they're absolutely honest."
