Police generic
About 200 officers were involved in the joint operation
Police in Devon say about 40 people have been issued with fixed penalty notices overnight as part of a crackdown on drink-fuelled disorder.

Some 29 of the 80 fines issued were handed out in Plymouth.

Since 6pm on Friday Devon and Cornwall Police say 149 people were arrested in the county which compares with 167 the previous Friday night.

Most arrests related to minor assaults, drunk and disorderly behaviour, and breach of the peace.

The clampdown on crime linked to binge drinking will continue for three weeks.

As well as increased patrols around the county's pubs and clubs, the police are supporting Trading Standards operations to stop alcohol being sold to under-18s.
