Parents and pupils demonstrated against the closure plan |
A decision will be taken again on Tuesday night on whether to press ahead with plans to close a south Devon primary school. Torbay Council decided in May to shut Upton St James Primary in Torquay.
But it is reconsidering its decision after a scrutiny committee decided the council did not carry out enough consultation about the decision.
Torbay Council needs to make cuts because they expect to have 1,000 fewer schoolchildren in five years' time.
Although Upton St James is considered to be a good school, the condition of the school buildings were a major factor in making the decision.
On the day the council recommended its closure, a large demonstration took place outside to show support for the school.
Protestors will attend the council meeting on Tueesday evening but do not plan to demonstrate because they said they had already made their point.
They are hoping the council will consider spreading the cuts out across Torbay rather than closing one school.
